How many of you out there have tryed the new X-Act ammo. I have heard good results from it, BUT the price do u think it is worth. Im using Eley match at the moment and am geting good results which works out about 0.37cents per shot for me but X-Act is about 0.66 cents per shot, very dear and just woundering if you rimfire shooters think it is worth it??? Cheers

Lapua X-Act has been available for a while, so I don't know what's "new" about it?
I shoot X-Act through my FWB bench gun, and have the prizes and trophies to prove it shoots well. One batch in particular (173 43 5 567 2) (<-- which I have committed to memory *sigh*) shoots amazingly well through my rifle.
It's expensive, but I pay the price for the peace of mind that flyers are rare and unlikely to influence the outcome of my shooting.
I've also heard stories that Lapua X-Act performs crap in the breeze, compared to Eley. Well, all of my memorable wins (NSW State Champs, ACT State Champs, Northern Beaches Prize Shoot, North Rocks Prize Shoot) have all been in wild and windy weather.
Ya get what ya pay for in the end...

Im hearin Ya snipe.!!
Theres a reason why its twice the price of eley black.
I we are shooting 199-200 with good centre counts with Eley black, I would imagine if the right batch was found, the average score would be better.??

And what about Eley Ten-X what are your thoughts on that. Or is X-act the best out there

A box of X-Act is about $35 for 50 rounds. A brick is anywhere from about $280 to $350, depending on whether the shop assistant has his wits about him...
A case? Dunno, but I'll let a benefactor buy the first one for me! Anyone out there?

Nope, never worked em out. I did do a quick search across the interwebs, and couldn't find any hits.
1734355672 and 1734355772 are the batches that shoot well through mine.
HPGS has a batch of X-Act which starts as 157445, which shoots crap (although I did score a 599 at Cecil Park during the NSW Enduro with it *scratches head*). This batch has a different powder comp in it, takes six times as long to settle down to a consistent POI in my rifle (i.e. 20 shots versus 3 of the 173435), and has a black acrid smoke and smell. Even after playing with my tuner, it still has flyers and vertical, so I'm using the rest of this stuff for practice, and hope to the Almighty that the 173435 ammo can continue to be supplied!

Chris,

It's not what "is the best out there", it's what shoots through your rifle that matters.
I've found that Lapua Midas+ shoots well through my rifle, but is a bit more inconsistent than X-Act (i.e. more chance of flyers). It'll group well, takes about 3 shots from a clean, cold, barrel to be on POI and grouping, but will occasionally throw a hotshot or one that'll just reach the bottom of the 9 ring. That's why it's cheaper than X-Act.
I found (quite by accident) that X-Act shoots well through my rifle. Again, from a cold, clean barrel, the first shot is pretty much every time about 11:00 high in the 7 to 8 ring, then the next shot will be on POI and it'll group. In the numerous bricks of the 173435 batch of X-Act I've put through my rifle now, I can pretty much count the number of what I call "true flyers" using my fingers. That's why I'm prepared to pay the amount I do for this brand and batch of ammo.
I don't want to go into a major comp thinking "is the next shot gonna be on point, or a flyer?"
When you're confident that the ammo shoots consistently, then you're more prepared to hold off on the edge of the 10-ring, or even the 9-ring, rather than aim dead centre all the time.
I have shot Eley Tenex through my target rifle, but can't see the difference between that and Eley Black at the moment. The only Tenex I've found so far is 1070 speed, which I think is a little hot for my rifle - Eley Black 1064 seems much "smoother" = more consistent.
I tried some Eley Black 1068 through my FWB bench gun, and it didn't like it all that much...

Im using Eley Black 1056 ATM and it was shooting well till this last week and just now I have been out the gun room and noticed my tuner was out by one whole revolution, dont know how it happened but I put it back to where it has been for the last two bricks and hopefully it should be fine,I will test it on wednesday morn.!!
I too found tenex to be on par with Black ,hence why im shootin Black.
My gun Takes one shot from a cold clean barrel to find point of aim and group, always throws first shot high at 11o'clock in the 8 ring.!!
I would be keen to find some x-Act that was great shooting though, just to satisfy my curiosity.
