An amazing night at SISC...

I am crying almost inconsolably, and laughing maniacally.

You see, I just shot a PQS (Personal Qualification Score) score of 593 at Cecil Park tonight. Witnessed by the Range Officers.

When I first started shooting prone target rifle, I did some research on what it would take to qualify for Commonwealth and/or Olympic Games. A PQS of 592 (Womens Prone) is enough to qualify for selection to the Commonwealth Games at least. Admittedly, this has to be done during competition, and tonight was just a practice. The NSWSARAI State coaches said to me when I started shooting prone that scoring a 580 would be challenging but doable, and scores in the 590's would be very hard to achieve, so I set my sights (pun completely intended :) ) on the 590, and in the back of my mind, the PQS of 592.

I didn't just reach 590, I smashed it!

There were a couple of 9's I should have scored 10's on, but I took the shots in haste, rather than back off and reattempt them.

The last three shots, I couldn't pull the trigger, as I knew a PQS was possible. The last shot, I lined it up, and distinctly went "bugger it!", and shot the 10!

Tonight, I feel like I've won the lottery. Laughing, crying, wondering what the future holds for me.

I really feel like I've taken a giant step forward in my life tonight. I wrote an article for Hunt and Shoot some time back titled "is shooting a drug of addiction?". Hell yes!

What can I say? well done just doesn't seem enough.
A PB is great anytime one of this level is the ultimate.
I know what you mean about the trigger not wanting to break, happens to me every time I know a PB is on the cards.

Just need to shoot a few at this level in competition.
Have you thought about shooting at the Australia Cup events?

If you don't shoot competition a score is just a number and it's a bit hard to gauge how good it is.
So you have something to reference snipewenches score against

Commonwealth Games Record is 590
The medal winners at the 2006 commonwealth games shot 586, 585, 584

G'Day SW,
Go GIRL! :D
given competition shooting is is as much "in the head" as it is in technique and equipment, the confidence boost this result will give you is brilliant! Use it now to reach great hieghts.

To me this proves the equipment is good, your technique is sound, and most importantly, mentally you were able to push through to finish off and achieve a 593. The only limits I see are those you may put on yourself. And that is something YOU and ONLY YOU can overcome. Some of the boys should take note and not sit there green with envy!

All I can say is keep it up and go get 'em!

hope this helps and GOOD LUCK

Cheerio Ned

Thanks guys! I'm still smiling today, but it's edged by the fact I need to shoot well on Sunday - the NSW State Championships are being held at SISC this weekend.

Benchrest first up, followed immediately thereafter by prone TR, and about 45 minutes later (perhaps) the finals in the Finals Hall.

Rinso, yes, I have been listening to the great advice from you guys. Which is why I like to put up the results :)
