Allowing a bipod isn't what I'd consider giving an unfair advantage, so I figure that's why it doesn't seem to bother anybody as long as it is included in the weight.

Muz,

You should see the .308 that I have just taken possession of. It's an ex big bore rifle with a heavy fluted barrel built upon a Mark X action and in a custom made Lionel Weeks stock.

I have also recently acquired a 25 X Lyman scope that was boosted by Wally Seibert, I am adamant that this rifle will perform (just not sure about the shooter).

There was a bloke I knew from the Army that shot at Hornsby earlier this year, off memory I think he was using an Accuracy International (he also shot with a bipod) and came in third or fourth.

Muz, my remarks about bipods were not aimed to start off a debate about rules for the Fly, or any other discipline for that matter. What i will say is that my personal view is that i don't have any issue if rails, bags or bipods are used in any long range match, BR or even FClass. I shot a HG once and once only in FClass back when there were no rules. Sure it shot good, but it handled like a brick on biro springs and by the time i moved the elephant, the wind had changed several times. Never again. The point is that 500 M, 600 yds or 1000 yds of thin air is a great equaliser. I would dearly love to see a rail gun at 1K on our home range on days like today, where the only thing the wind didn't move was my bowel  .

Hi Tony,

Ah yes rules are always a touchy debate...I don't want to throw fuel on the fire but I'll give my take on the matter...

For starters your dead on about the equalisation factor that the wind has... thats what I love about the game.

From what I have seen down this neck of the woods is..... that the Fly is the Fly - it has 10 simple straight forward rules printed on the target, it has been shot here on OZ for a long time and is still as popular as ever.

The rules for the most part are very similar to 600yds and 1000yds, at least I can't say I've heard too many complaints. Most guys who shoot both the Fly and 1K can turn up with exactly the same equipment shoot both matches and be competitive in both as well. And you've gotta love Rule 10 that should be compulsory at all shooting matches

There is also the added benifit that some new shooters see the fly as a stepping stone into the longer range game and anything we can do to attract new shooters has gotta be a plus...

When a guy can build a new gun and know he can shoot it in both Fly and 600/1K he's gunna get more bangs for his bucks, it makes it all worth while - well at least a bit more justifiable to the Mrs....
