Well went to the National Queens and found out that my barrel is toast. SO have a new 30 inch PAC NOR with the armourer who of course has about 3 weeks of team's commitment's to do before he can get to it so an enforced absence for me. Oh Well such is life.
Mind you I did put my scope on my 6.5 x 55 Tikka t3 lite which does shoot bloody well with a match load I worked up with it. Now it has a bigger scope and I can read the wind a bit better might have to shoot it again at the shorter ranges.

Well it has done over 4500 rounds, and keeps throwing elevation all over the place. Besides it was only 26 inch's long so at 1000 was running out of steam. If it's not totally toast I'll re chamber my old 243 with it to shoot short range's with it.

The trouble is some people see barrels as toast or duds and they arent give the chance to perform in the first place. There are plenty of well regarded target gunsmiths in this country and employing one isnt usually a bad choice. I believe it was Matt Paroz who turned that "dud" into one of the best performing guns at 1000yds the other week.

Anyway I took the kids (1 and 3) to the range yesterday. They loved it.

First trip for a fair while and I had some old 6BR ammo to use up.

On a clean (I mean dead clean by iosso and verified by bore scope clean) barrel it shot pretty darn average but by the end of the string was a little better. 57.3 first up at 500y. The constant "DADDY!" in the background wasnt real helpful either but its no excuse for not watching the conditions which ultimately hurt me way more than it should. Second detail was 60.4 and felt much better.

Will be adding an adjustable tuner to one of my good 284 shehane barrels tomorrow and doing some testing with it over the next few months or so.

Good pic mate get em there young ;) I knew back in Brisbane a couple of the best metallic silhouette shooters and he's a smith at Pine Rivers or was. Both there two kids even as baby's came to all the comps the parents went to.
Anyway back to the old girl, he knows what he's going, if he checks it out and says do this as it's this I'll do that but being that it is a little short for the 1000 yard will probably still change it out so I don't have to worry for the next X number of years. Hmmm now to get a Nightforce or March scope and if you believe that ;) ;)

whats to tell it's a bog standard t3 lite that shoot's half a MOA with a stiff load of 09 and a 140 hornady BTHP match bullet. It won't do that for 10 shot's by that stage the barrel is pretty hot so the group opens up. It normally only has a 3-9 burris when I worked up that load. With my omark in the shop for a month or so I changed the scope over to a bushnell elite 6-24 and I can read the flags a bit better now so who knows for a bit of fun and all.

What load you running in that swede? Be interesting to compare with the improved version. I have no speed eg chrony but 50.5 of 2213sc seems to be doing the trick with jlks. Need to do some loading and head out for another shoot.

I use 46 grain's of 09 in my 140 load, have been as high as 48 as a max with 140 sst's but case life was short  46 is more accurate.

what action and barrel are you running?? I would love to make an F open rifle on a improved 6.5 x 55. I remember a day down in Canberra when I was shooting silhouette and a bloke was sighting in a Ackley version with some handloads that he got with the rifle which were 125 partitions and they were really hooting along. In my old Howa with a 22 inch barrel went as high as 51 grains of 09 behind a 120 Taipan but that was the max load wasn't accurate.

we shot the 900 today.
bloody nice day to let off a few crackers.
dropped a couple on the first string only got a 40.1
my fault though....
second string went a bit better got a 51.1
91.2 is a PB at 900yrds.. so im pretty happy with it.
we had a good group from claremont turn up so it ended up a bit of a long day...
but its all good.
its the lead up to the gemshoot,so we will have good numbers up till then.
