G'day Hiwall

You're in Brisbane aren't you? Were you going to come and have a look? A few of us Townsville blokes are coming down for the weekend and would be a good chance to put a face to the name.

No Al, I won't be there. I guess I will soon be a newbie at this long range stuff, collecting the gear I need at the moment and will have a go somewhere around local pretty soon.

Well, entertaining day had by all for the fly shoot.
Jugs took out LG, and the day overall with 237.something
HG taken out by Pete Van Meurs, with a *ahem* 6 dasher  and 235.4, which netted him 2nd overall.

BTW, Muz and I both broke the 200, with 2nd and 3rd in LG respectively. Amazing.

All scores will be posted on my website in the coming days. Looks like we may have up to 50 shooters for the 1K tomorrow as well. Going to make for a long day.

Well done to Jugs, Mick and Muz for your LG effort. Well done also to PVM with a 6 Dasher HG. Berger 95 grainer again i'd be guessing? What happened to the rest of the HGs? Ceremonial burning i hope

Mick what were the winning calibres/cartridges for LG? What were the conditions like?

Good luck to all for tomorrows 1K. Hopefully the HGs can redeem themselves  Anyone got an idea of the blind spotted breakdown for the 1K?

Interesting results from what I have heard so far...

A 6.5X284 taking it out.. and very close behind by 2 points a 6mm Dasher.... considering both these calibers dont compete! Bis scoes for Canberra too... 237, followed by 235!

Great shooting guys, just awesome... cant believe I missed it!

If PVM is shooting the same, 105Bergers, 2208... no turn, no projectile batching... throwing powder charges.. very limited brass work..........26" barrel, un-bloody-real!

Cheers

OK Trev, i'm gunna bite.

JR and i just discussed it a little while ago, we're gunna forget everything we have been doing in 1K and 600, sell off the HGs and build Dashers. No neck turn, no batching, throw charges, no flat base bullets etc etc etc. The reason we have come to this conclusion, is that if PVM did fuck all, then with a little bit of work we could get our Dashers to 270 or more. Maybe 280.
Then we're gunna tell the yanks on BRC, that they are doing it all wrong because PVM won a HG Fly match with a Dasher and our record holding HGs are nothing but a piece of crap that burn more powder than necessary and push perfect bullets up slow twist barrels at speeds that buck the wind too well. We need to have something that drfts a predictable 7 feet in Canberra winds at 1K, 20 inches is just way too small an amount of drift.
Then when we're done with that, we will retire all the LR score and group records, because a Dasher or BRX or BR+100 etc is going to eventually hold them anyway. We will do this so as to not put any pressure on the shooters thinking they actually had something to aim for.

Shit i just woke up. Had a terrible nightmare that a 6mm Dasher was the best cartridge ever. Oh well, back to reality now.

Tony Z. Keep dreaming Trevor. See you in July.

TonyZ,

Whilst I won't enter this debate as such I will make an observation. I built a 6x47 Lapua for the young bloke for LR BR and it made the trip to Canberra for its first real outing. Now a simple fact here is that I choose the 6 x 47 L as the young bloke is just that young and not very large so the reduced recoil was a big plus I also did not relish the idea of carrying two HG's around.
The 6 x 47 L IMHO showed some potential on paper as well.
Having now seen the rifle perform over 500 and 1k I am impressed with the possibilities. I won't be selling my 300 Win Mag but believe that the young bloke will have a very competitive rifle in 6 x 47 L in LG. The rifle managed to hold one inch too one half inch vertical at 500 and showed good ability at 1k with 4 shots holding under 2 inches vertical.
Considering the limited load development I have had on this rifle I think it can only get better.
Now as I said I will be re barrelling my 300 and that will remain my main rifle, I have also decided to chamber a LG in 6 x 47 L for 1k LG and spend sometime on the calibre.
I may be insane but I think it has a some potential.

cheers

Tony Z.... get out of it... its not your fight! :D This between Jeff and I! But you are very right in what you say!

When are you guys going to grow up and use the only caliber that is competitive in HG, the 300Ackley.. the redneck is not the 300Ackley, and we know the 300Ackley wins everything! Look at the results... please tell me you giggled then?

How could you not expect me to chime in with something when the the non-magnums do so very well again! I really dont care for what people shoot.. its just the fun of the hassle, and if you have not realised that now... Jesus...

I do agree though.... nonturned cases.. no batched cases... na bugger it... just use rimfire in the improved Br's... heck they shoot that well!

I think you can put any respectiful shooting rifle into the hands of a good shooter and it will do well. I will even go out there and say and a nice LR 22cal can win, or at least do very well.

Good luck getting your improved BR's ready for July... I'll have my 22-408Cheytac Improved ultralight gun finished by then, using 22cal air rifle pellets... it will shoot that well, once I work out how to stop it from melting them out the barrel!

Its been fun...

Remember practice makes perfect..

Cheers

ps. If your dreaming of the Dasher.... well your half way there.. as long as Jeff wasnt in the dream holding it and you had a fat!
