Re: 1000yd br /500m fly start up advice
well the barrel was going to be an easy choice, order another Lilja but Luke has a Shilen 4 grove 8 twist 6mm barrel in stock.
Am I losing anything to buy this.
No rush. Ned is too busy to make the stock before Christmas so the time delay by ordering a barrel does not matter

Reloder 15 and a good 6 mil bullet. Whodda thunk that?
This is what I don't get. I won LG at the 2013 SCC with a 6 mil. Placed second in both score and group in HG using the same LG. Last year Jacko cleans up at SCC LG with a 6 mil. Then wins Fly with same 6 mil as I did years ago. But 6 mils are no good for Fclass or 1K? Run the numbers boys using real world data like say that from this years PRS events. Seriously the only reason the 7s rule is because few are smart enough to see the wood for the trees. Not saying Fclassers are dumb, rather that they have developed sheep syndrome associated with SR BR.. Have a very close look at what is NOT being used in PRS at 300 to 1200 yards.

I looked at some equipment lists on IBS 600yd comp posts. Nearly every gun, light and heavy was a 6dasher,BRX or 6br

Rinso wrote:Only my opinion but I would not consider an SLR, its basically a modified 243 case which offers little benefit in my eyes. The 6x47 and 6BR will drive 103's accurately and fast enough.
Ask yourself why certain calibre cartridge combo's are on the winners list and others are not even on the equipment list. You don't have to re invent the wheel.
So if you want a no fuss 6mm the BR or 47 Lapua will do all you need. That said the 47 Lapua can be polarising and has some detractors but I have seen enough good results to convince me it worksRinso wrote:I would stay with 6mm
New 500 Fly Small group record 0.589 shot with a 6mmBR and 103 Copperheads
Highest score LG is 276.2 held by a 6x47 Lapua
Range LG score records belong to 6BR at Batemans Bay & Belmont and 6x47 Lapua at Canberra and Wagga
Yes the Dasher performs as well

heres some more from accurate shooter
Equipment Choices of Two Gun Top 20
If you review the equipment list for the Top 20 Two Gun competitors, you’ll find that Nightforce scopes were used by 19 shooters, while BAT actions were used by 15 shooters. Remarkably, 17 out of the top 20 used rifles chambered in 6 Dasher. Hodgdon Varget was the most commonly-used powder followed by Alliant Reloder 15. In the barrel department, Brux enjoyed a slight edge over Krieger, with ten shooters using Brux Barrels vs. seven using Kriegers.

I have a couple of 6mm HV barrels laying around.... I'm tempted to do a dasher with one of them for myself, the viper SS can always use an extra barrel.
