Custom rimfire barrel or Factory.??
Re: Custom rimfire barrel or Factory.??
fair call on the box vs brick but i would have thought with people paying over 30 bucks a box for tennex or exact i would have thought either um1 or 900 would be worth its equal with 900b or 1080 being worth less

I take that to mean you will be at Malabar on Saturday, I hope so, that means I will have 5 rifles on the line.SnipeWench wrote:<-- flies under the radar. However Dal is safe I will be starting my build up to my USA trip and will shoot the sporter I will be using over there for practice. Will be a fun day in the wind and the rain.

Re: Custom rimfire barrel or Factory.??
Hmmmmm I think I can remember someone saying that they dont beleive in bedding/pillaring a rimfire......................................would it not avoid a lot of this supposed action bending.Just my take on the action screw tension,I reckon that there would be far more over tensioned rifles out there than under tensioned ones.
I find that I am always on the hunt for ammo that suits my rifles .............................................why is that you say, well it's because I very rarely purchase much more than say three to four bricks at a time, add that to the fact that at most events I may average two sighter shots for each record shot(some times more ) and it dont take long to be searching for more ammo again.
Regards Chris.

Damien come down and shoot on the Saturday as its custom class, any scope power,3 inch forend max width,14lb max weight limit. You will have a top day of comp and for christ sake dont not go because you dont think you will be competive(I dont think that came out they way I ment it to)ahhhh you know what I mean ......................................................and my guess is that there will be quite a number of rifles just the same as yours ............................Oh and fook Bathurst, what could be better than getting out and having a shot and meeting some new like minded people .

Is it the 'barrel-tuner' the quality of workmanship in the rifle or the time you take in reading the conditions before you squeeze off....?

Sean I like to call or compare it to the stacked tolerance syndrome meaning that if one of those factors was only at say9/10th's then it would be hardly noticable most of the time but if another was out 9/10th's then add the two together and it may have an effect that is far more prevalent.
I believe in having all the cards in your deck ie dont discount the effects that a tuner has, match the ammo to the rifle, practice over flags etc.....................................................................I am also a great believer in having the correct mindset on the day as well,as you all know there is a lot of time, money involved so why leave something on the table when it comes to preparation.

Native,
Also, it's best to clean your rifle between shooting the Eley, and shooting the eXact. Compare how quickly the rifle settles into a group.
If eXact doesn't settle into a nice tight group, and your sighters look like they've been hit by a shotgun blast (noting that you'll need to readjust your barrel tuner to really see what the eXact could do), then eXact isn't for your rifle.
In order to compare, choose a less windy day - still, first thing in the morning. This takes major wind factors out of the equation.native hunter wrote:Ok,Now I shot x-act and it was adverse conditions,it was only a box and no tuning or playing ,just shot them consecutive after black and compared.!!

Re: Custom rimfire barrel or Factory.??
Mmmmmmmmm Rimfire accuracy something thats stirs the soul and rots the brain.
I love reading these threads you lot have. They are full of good info (that hasnt really changed much in 30 years mind you) for the new shooter to learn.
Then there is Sean's contributions ..... now I have stated my opinion on rimfire shooting before and I note Bec has raised it here again ...
I can only conclude that Sean had someone else hit him in the head with a brick. It is obvious it was someone that didnt like him because they seem to have caused permanent damage.
We should all toss our rifles away buy clapped out old Annie's without tuners or bedding and adjust tension by using a lefthanded screwdriver whilst holding the rifle between our feet at a 45 degree angle before flipping it over and changing hands with the screwdriver .. dont forget to have your tongue out whilst doing this or it wont work.
Bec its good to see you getting some results .. well done. You should have a crack at long range BR.
Native mate get into it .. dont over think the wind just learn patience and back your judgement, it will hurt you on occassion but you will learn by doing. As for ammo buy it batch it shoot it .. if you think your rifle shoots better with a particular brand then it does .. belief is as important as anything.
Most of all have fun .. its meant to be fun ... It is fun ... I have won more matches when I was having fun than I ever have when I was trying to be serious.

Bec, start competing with stuff that goes bang, not pop. It seems you've got the pop gun stuff undercontrol and need a new challenge

Yea, yea Dave whatever.
I think most on this forum disregard your opinions as most do the prices that you demand for broken down and well worn equipment but then again one would expect these kind of comments from a 'special needs employee' from within the public service.

Re: Custom rimfire barrel or Factory.??
Here we go AGAIN ! I did say id offer my opion re Factory barrel vs Custom barrel and here is my 2cents worth. I have a few .22lrs ok alot of 22lrs and i love them all. Only one of them has 2 custom barrels and at the moment those barrels are in the in the safe and a 2nd factory barrel installed. Its an Annie 2013 which i can change barrels as i please , i not saying that one is better than the other. Having four barrels to choose from raises even more hassels as im only guessing here proberly none of them would like the same ammo or batch of ammo. If factory barrels aint as good as a custom barrel like some of you are suggesting and lets stick with a manufacturer like Anschutz. Wouldnt you think Anschutz a well respected multi billion dollar company, would BUY OUT one of these PISS ANT SO CALLED CUSTOM BARREL makers and have them installed into there firearms and be DONE WITH IT in the 1ST place. Im not saying for one minute EVERY Factory barrel that comes from Anschutz is a Shooter , But then Again Can any of you PROVE that EVERY CUSTOM one IS ? I have to agree with Rinso when it does come down to mind set when shooting. Yesterday i shot in a comp at an unfamilar range. Lets start buy saying the benches where to tall the seats where to low and i couldnt get comfortable. I decided to shoot whilststanding in a crouched position which wasnt good for the old back but better than trying to strectch with a stool thats to low. To top it off they where to close to one another, all most rubbing elbows with shooters either side of you. I had a shooter to my right who came unprepared and his rifle wasnt sighted in, so after every shot he decided to get up and go ask the rasnge officer where his shots where going. Which is where mind set comes in, if i was focused in what I WAS DOING and not let him up set my shooting i PROBERLY wouldnt have dropped the two shots i did. He finally gave up after 15shots and didnt shoot again. The next two details i shot two 200s,just knowing he was gone help considerably. Cheers Ron
