Re: New Long Range Benchrest Web site?
I want the old AJR back
I hate the results stuff..... I only like looking at it when it has the full lot of information, like scores, caliber used, action used, stock, brass, powder, projectile, charge weight. I find this very interesting to see what people are using, or trying. Just plain out numbers is a bit boring. This is not any sort of dig towards you AJR, as it is all the information you have.
Cheers

Re: New Long Range Benchrest Web site?
aJR,
I have read with interest your comments regarding results and I think that rather than a LR BR web site we could just ask the very clever and amazingly helpful kjd if we can have a sub forum for results.
That way we can keep AV the way it is and have a section for all the results and records you suggest, an idea which I would support wholeheartedly and solves all the problems.
Then its just a matter of someone from each shoot posting the results, equipment lists etc as for maintaing the record scores, groups etc I think one or two people only should amend those and you me old mate are my first nomination for that role.
Food for thought .. what do ya think ???
cheers
Rinso

Re: New Long Range Benchrest Web site?
aJR it's a great loss to any budding accuracy buffs. I've never seen the kind of techo stuff in the same depth you posted, anywhere else on the internet. Your post on the "1000yd light gun on a budget" is why I have an Omark action sitting in the safe. I haven't reported any results back because it's still waiting for me to find the budget. I may not ever compete at 1000yds but the ideas and info will be good for anyone who wants to build an accurate Omark based rifle. I'll be happy shooting small groups at our 300m range even if I'm often the only shooter there.
I hope you can share some more of your practical knowledge and experience one day.
Thanks for what you have shared thus far anyway.
cheers
Sam Walker

Re: New Long Range Benchrest Web site?
All I have to really say on the issue is that I think that here at AV we have tried very hard to cater to a non-target group in LRBR and would hate to see a "rival" site pop up.
I have offered subforums for various shooting sports and am willing to explore other avenues for results to be posted and info to be shared especially if it is presented to admin with clear, concise and realistic ideas.
You have the support and technical knowledge here with our admin team Jeff and we are more than happy to help anyone out. However that support and knowledge won't be available to another shooting site that can be covered here with a bit of communication.
Thanks to those that continue to support this site and remember all idea's are welcome but we can only implement the practical ones.

Re: New Long Range Benchrest Web site?
kjd,
So is a sub forum or similar for the posting of results, equipment lists and records possible ????
et al,
I will add also with regard to Jeff, that we tend to forget that compiling lengthy posts on techical data and information is both time consuming and tiring. Jeff did this to benefit others, I hope you all thanked him for his effort.
The other thing to consider is that Jeff can choose to limit his posts in anyway he desires .. its his choice, not anyone elses. None of us have any idea what other demands Jeff may have on his time which limit him in this area, nor do we know wether he just needs a break. Leave the bloke alone, if you want to do anything just say thanks for all your help as Sam Walker did.
cheers

Re: New Long Range Benchrest Web site?
Re –Website proposals
Currently, the websites that cater for the needs of Australian LRBR are either :-
Aus varmint – which presently allows and caters for free discussion on any related target shooting topic.
Canberra based site- ( hosted by Mick Easton) on which local results for F Class, Fly and 1000yd BR have been listed since approx mid 2007. Also to Mick’s credit, he has been prepared to indicate whether competitors shoot either “blind” or marked target for 1000yd BR.
Brisbane based – BRT site- on which up to date results are listed for Brisbane events, but the Canberra and Townsville sections have some errors and have not been updated since mid 2007.
Sadly for the sport of 1000yd Br in this country, recognition or indication of competitors who have used or continue to use the "blind" method of shooting has been conveniently omitted and ignored in the shooting results that are posted.
Given the above situation and factors, I support Rinso’s idea and believe it would be in the best long term interest of LRBR (both fly and 1000yd) in this country, if it is feasible and possible to incorporate and establish a results/record section on Aus varmint.
This would be a natural supplement to the excellent discussion forum which now exists.
For those, who are unaware, Jeff Rodgers has kept track of and has been the unofficial custodian of LRBR results for many years. If he was willing and given the opportunity, I reckon he would continue to do this task in a most comprehensive, professional and unbiased manner.
just my thoughts

Re: New Long Range Benchrest Web site?
I think Keith offered us more subforums with the move to the new site and we didn't take him up on it, if its still a goer I think it would be great.
It would be a shame to loose any input from the experienced shooters either varminters or BR, I have learned alot from this place. I too have purchased an Omark to start me off in target shooting and hopefully will get me started into something along the BR crowd, most of which the budge build got me interested so thanks AJR
So why not add in results etc too I think it would be a great Idea

Hi Keith
If you want any of the 600yd match information to set up a records / results forum then let me know as I have it all electronically which should make it pretty easy to use.

Anything is possible and I have offered this in the past the reason why nothing like this was done previously is that the general consensus was that we didn't need it.
Jeff tell me what you want to do mate and I will see what can be done there is no need to go elsewhere.

Re: New Long Range Benchrest Web site?
Why don't I start a new subforum called "competition results" where each thread is entitled what the event is Townsville Results 10-6-08 etc etc. So each thread is different results and that way everyone can post results as well no matter what their sport is as they have their own thread. You just put the discipline's name in there so therefore it would be "Townsville LRBR Results 10/6/08" or "Canberra Silhouette Results 4-4-08" etc etc.
Is this a good idea?
I have also made it so you can upload PDF Excel and word document files to posts so you could even make them downloadable.
The reason why I think the results subforum idea is a good one is because the results will be searchable (and backed up).
Let me know if this is suitable?
