Please come along to a shoot, and bring the best rifle that you have and have a go at it. It will not take long to realise what is involved.
It is a great sport, and I wish you guys would come along and at least have a go.
Cheers

G,day all
At my local range we shoot 1 bracket of 300m fly each designated comp day and count the best 6 targets for a total score at the end of the year. Its not an ideal way to run a fly comp but its what the regulars wanted so what the heck. Anyway I went to a barbie after the last fly comp and still had the target (not one of my better ones. 38 ) in the truck. Got talking to a bloke I know that used to shoot big bore and was good at it according to himself. I showed him the target and he was suitably impressed until I mentioned that I adjusted the SCOPE half way through the bracket and it was shot at 300m. He bloody near fell of his chair laughing.
He reckoned he got those sort of groups at 600 using target iron sights and supporting the rifle in the prone position.
We started up on tuning rifles and in half an hour I think I learnt more about a subject I thought I had a handle on than I have in three years of reading everything I could lay my hands on. I may have to call him out by asking him up to the range one day for an informal showdown between his best fullbore rifle (he has several) with iron sights and my varmint outfit. With scope and bags. He also stated the most difficult and farthest he had ever shot was in Darwin over a distance of 1600yards. he reckoned the wind over that distance was almost impossible to read. Told me a few tricks about mirage and wind speed that I plan to test out too.
Cheers Jethro
