My Savage Versus those ACT Flies (Federal Fly Cup 2010)

Post by chappo555 »

After just returning from the Federal ACT Fly shoot I thought I’d share my experiences.

This was my first 500m Fly and my first visit to Majura Range. Firstly I must say a big thanks to CRC as it was a great event. Thanks to the organisers, scorers and target crew for a great job on what was a full day for shooters let alone the workers behind the scenes.

Having not shot a 500fly comp or at Majura I was a bit apprehensive and was just hoping to hit the paper. Looking down the line I didn’t see many factory guns, as everything looked custom built and there was certainly some ‘gun porn’ on display.

Well I set up with my factory Savage F Class in 6mmBR, 20moa rail and NF 12-42x56 and a load of 107 SMK’s in front of 29.5g of 2208 in Lapua cases and with the aid of my good mate bob for spotting, I had a try at this fly shooting stuff.

I was hooked after my first target and walked away at the end of the day with a pretty decent 413.5 and a patch for hitting 5 flies. To say I was stoked would be an understatement. With the scores done I came away 10th in light gun and 23rd overall. I’m certainly addicted on this fly shooting and am counting the days till the next one at Leeton.

It was great to see old friends and make some new ones, as well as meet a few of the guys and girl who lurk on AUSVARMITS. Thanks to all and hope to catch up soon.

Here is a pic of the most sacred bit of cloth in my gun room !!!

Cheers

Well done chappo. That's a great result for your first fly competition.

That's a great result if it was his 10th fly shoot. A lot of guys who have shot a lot of them did far worse, myself included.
