Re barrelling a Rem 700 BDL What calibre to pick???

Post by daisy »

It's a 1979 vintage in 22-250 and has had a fare amount of shots threw it over the years. I don't know when I'll get it re barrelled but was thinking I could get it in a calibre for silhouette.

The only match I shot I used my 30-06 and after 80 shots I was glad it was over. Not that I won't do it again as it was still fun.

Any comments would be appreciated.

If you want to use it for silhouette, then you should consider the 7mm-08. It fits the 700 short magazine perfectly, and will comfortably take down rams at 500 metres. It makes a fine hunting calibre too.

Gotta agree with jimbo, the 7mm-08 is a good sillohuette round and a versatile hunting round as well.Won't jar as much as the 30-06. I'd guess it was one of the most used calibers in metallic sillohuette.
Straight 308 is okay too.
Have a good one ,

Two of the hot shot cartridges going in the US for silhouette are either the 6.5 BR or the 7 BR. Very low recoil, very effecient and both have the ability to knock down the Rams every time. There is one shooter friend of mine in the ACT using a 7 BR and he is hitting more animals more consistantly than he has ever done before when using the larger capacity cases. Check out some of the velocities attained and you will quickly see the reason why many are changing over. Barrel life in some instances is more than doubled. Win win.

how do you think the 30BR would go at Met Sil??
Seeing the 6.5 and 7 BR's do so well wouldn't the 30 BR just be more of a good thing??

thanks
