Yes the 260AI looks the goods and I have been very impressed with it so far. It has a lot of good points ie great range of brass, good range of projectiles for target work, fits a short action, 308 bolt face to name a few.
Shane chambered mine up so I know he has a good reamer, I am using a Redding FL bushing die and a Wilson seater and have gone for a 292 neck.
cheers

Re: Projectile suggestions please for LR target load (500 Fly)
I used to use a 6.5 Hills Improved (like a .260 Improved with a longer neck) , however I went to the 6.5x55 Ackley because
the forming and firing processes for the HI, and I assume the .260 Improved would be the same if you were using Lapua
brass, that is, size down or up (up from .243 yields a thinner neck wall which is easier) then bump the shoulder for the
HI to move the shoulder back, then fire and neck turn.
With the 6.5x55 Ackley, I neck turn, including into the shoulder a little, then fire. Job done, and the fire-forming loads yield
acceptable accuracy. If Lapua made .260 brass I probably never would have changed.
With the standard 55, which a few people are running, you just have to watch your case lengths to make sure they don't
get away on you.
I'm just about to fire-form 150 new cases for my ackley, time to screw in the fire-forming barrel and get to work...
Cheers.

Yeah the easy of brass work is what makes the 6.5x55 more attractive, weather it will fit in my savage 22-250 action I don't know .. not yet anyhow

Re: Projectile suggestions please for LR target load (500 Fly)
hahahah, yeah, definitely one of my favorite things about the 6.5x55AI as well is the amount of work for case forming. Depending on how tight your neck is, load a standard 6.5x55 and shoot it. And as Dave said, the accuracy for a fireforming load has been good in my experience. Even won a couple of F-Open yardges while fireforming.
Really, for the benefits the AI provides, I doubt I'd bother with a tapered case on a rifle I was going to shoot every weekend. Too much effort.

that was my next question, how accurate are they during the Fireforming process.
sounds all good and very interesting.

Re: Projectile suggestions please for LR target load (500 Fly)
In my experience most cases are fine for accuracy during fireforming. The 260AI I have just done was excellent and I would shoot it ina 500 Fly event while fireforming.
