Who is shooting a unmodified 6.5X47L?

Post by Ackley Improved »

Curious to where anyone has tried or is shooting the 6.5X47L in competition? 500m Fly, F Class?

I have just bought a 3 lug BAT (thanks PVM), and ordered a Kelbly stock. That will be my 6mm Dasher, and my current rifle I am thinking of converting to 6.5X47L.

Any info?

Cheers

Hi AI,

I was looking for info on the 6x47L cause that is the calibre of my new varmint gun
being built and officiously found info for the 6.5x47L,
http://www.6mmhot.com/6mmHOT_Load_Info.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
half way down the page.

Also try http://www.freewebs.com/precisionrifle/ ... emonth.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
scroll down to Rob's Ultimate Tactical Rifle

So your building a new dasher and thinking of changing you old one
to 6.5x47L, is that correct?

hi A I looks like you have been talking to JR or TZ :mrgreen: :x :x i have a few small problems with the load and chamber i wes using 37.5 gns 2208 at the time and it was ok at home in mackay but the hotter temp and humidity in townsville had its effect and combined with a very tight chamber -- i make my own reamers and this one is very tight on the base of the shell and the rounds became hard to extract -- have fitted new extractor and dropped load for 1000yd shoot next sunday hope all goes well the only other projectiles i have tried are 120 taipans to fire form the shells and some 120 sierra matchkings to work up a load and the lapua 123 gn look like the best for this rifle but will still look for any other projectiles that might do the job

Yeah mate, that is correct. Build up a new Dasher, which all parts are on there way, and then add a 6.5 barrel to my old one for a 6.5X47L.

Hmmmm.... mid-pop gun.. you are correct!

Someone needs to build a 6mm Dasher HG and then show you blokes a thing or two! :lol:

Was just looking at the flash hole on the 6.5x47L and noticed that it was smaller than the flash hole on a Lapua .223 case... Checked a few more cases from the box (both .223 & 6.5x47L) and noticed that the 6.5x47's all had a visibly smaller flash hole from (ref pic - both cases unmodified, just grabbed straight out of the box & snapped)

Is this normal for anyone else shooting the 6-6.5x47L / 6.5x47L ?

If so, do you uniform the flash holes on the cases for the standard small rifle flash hole? Are there any benefits to opening them up or leaving them the way they are?

Meat, that flash hole in the 6.5x47 is around 62 thou. The 223 like 222 is at around 80 thou. The small primer coupled with the small flash hole is what some say is required for consistant ignition.

Tony - Thank you for that - I wasn't sure if I got a hokey box of brass or not :shock: hehe now I just need to save up for the rest of the bits to build the rifle around the case lol

For the batch of brass that i have been playing with, i had to remove a small "burr" that was evident inside almost every case flash hole, and i also had great difficulty in "seating with feel" primers prior to the first firing. After the first firing,the "extremely tight situation " diminishes and primers seat firmly with great control. :D :D :D

Depending on die manufacture, some 6-6.5x47 dies may not be supplied with the correct size depriming pin (they fit in lapua PPC & BR cases) but required a few thou to be skimmed off to fit in my particular batch of cases.
