First T'ville 1K for 08

Post by Tony Z »

Hi all. Today we had our first match at 1K and for most everyone it was a shakedown of new barrels, cartidges, stocks and other crap. As such our first match results traditionally don't get into the 6 match year aggs. Today was such a day excepting JR in HG who put down a 6.83 and a 8.75 with scores of 96.3 and 94.1. JR was the only and will probably be the only HG at Townsville for this years run at 1K. He used the same batch of 139 Scenars as i used in the Fly last weekend and we saw today how good they can be at 1K. Both of us are happy with the choice of HG cartridge we have gone for this year.
As for LG there was nothing startling put down by anyone. Eric shot small group agg at 10.095 and high match score agg of 90.1 was shot by Alan N. I put down the SG at 7.98 with a 90 score agg for second place in both group and score. Third was Alan N for group agg at 12.405 and Bob Noakes was third in score agg with 87.1.

Today was also the first outing for Trent Bainbridge with a FClass standard rifle in 223. He did very well in his second target considering his 80 grain SMKs were sideways through the target all day. The score was a 37 with a 15.60 group. Well done Trent.

Our next matches will be on the weekend of the 24-25 May. There will be 2x 1K on the 24th AM followed by 2x IK in the PM. On the 25th it will be the long range TR and F Class club champs in the AM followed by 600 Aus in the PM.

Speaking of 600 yards, i see a new record group of 0.386" was shot in the US yesterday by John Lewis using a stock 308 and 155 Scenars in a 14 twist barrel. That thud i heard yesterday must have been a lot of jaws hitting the groud. Especially those who owned 6BRs, Dashers, BRXs etc.
I should think that it will never get beaten and to do it, it will need backers to prove it.

A good day was had by all with a lot of pondering for most of us until the next match. Thanks again go to Bob MacQ coming up from Mackay. Shortly we hope to get down his way when they start running matches.

Tony Z.

Hi Tony
Good to get the first run of new gear out of the way.
What cartridge are you and JR running?
I saw the 6.5 refernce in the Fly post and was wondering?
Have a good one,
