RF practice ammo?????

Post by Knackers »

G'day fellas, one of the reasons that I enjoy RF shooting is the cost. If I'm just plinking at various things I'l use a cheap bulk pack of just about whatever is going.
When I am going in a comp I use Eley Match or RWS R50, but thats not cheap to practice with, so I am asking those of you that target shoot RF's what you do about practice ammo?
Do you use premium grade ammo for practice, or do you use something abit cheaper?
Do you find a good grouping cheaper ammo, then say practice in the wind, but not expect groups any better than what is achievable under still conditions with the same said ammo?

G'Day Knackers,
I use Eley Subsonic Hollow Xtra in my 64MPR, at 50paces it regularly gets 3 shots cutting and since they are subsonic HP's excellent for quiet hunting around the house! I cannot remember how musch they cost but it was not much more than regular hunting ammo and certainly cheaper than match ammo!

I'd say from my limited 22lr BR experience they are not that far behind some of the topline match ammo.....

hope this helps

I use the Eley subsonic hollow plus which I think is the same ammo for silhouette. Always group around moa at 100 meters out of my CZ Silhouette. They cost between $5 to $5.60 for 50. I paid $50 a brick at Elks.
They are one of the 22's not listed on the Eley site for 2008. They have dropped a lot of their range, so I'll be looking for some new ammo.

There is a bulk SK tin that they sell club atch ammo in

Last I say it was at Viccity arems in Melbourne and they had plenty of tins.

SK make nice ammo so their budget match should be a good one to try

I remember the blue tins were several hundred shells for under $10 285 or 325 or something like that

once I found out how well my P94S like win subsonic I stopped testing and brought a few brick of the same lot

Later
