Getting ready for Fly shoot

Post by Thomo »

I decided after some discusion with Trevor last time he was up that i will come to Leeton and have a go of this "FLY" shoot caper,

Where can i get some of these FLY targets to practise on?

What sort of power scope is the go for this, i only have crappy high mag scopes but maybe i can Beg/borrow/steal one for the event but need to know what sort of magnification i should be chasing.

Better start doing a bit of serious load testing to i spouse.

Leeton is only shot over 300m rather than 500m. The targets Shane uses are locally sourced Shane could probably tell you where he gets them.

As its only 300m any scope will do the job, I would say anything around 12x or better would be good.

cheers

I could see 6mm holes with a 16 top last time. This comp is about fun more than anything, sure there are people who want to win, but just getting there and having ago with that tackholing 308 you showed me is what its all about

The way Thomo shoots you guys might consider limiting him to a 22lr or lend him an air gun.
If you let him use something decent....??????

Thomo the fine reticle in your scope on the 204 would be an advantage at long range- load up some 39BK's and see how you go at 300

later

I have allready done that  , i was talking to my mate today and his brother sells scopes and things, when i told him he said "hang on" rang his brother and then tells me his brother got given a Nikko Target scope 8-32x? to test out, but as he only a few rifles he said i can test it out on the 308 if i want, it may only be a cheapy but it will cost me nothing so i might give that a run. At least i can hand it back if its no good

And Pat dont build me up to much mate, apart from army service i have been to a range once before and had my first shots of a proper benchrest the other week, im highly likely to shoot like a real mug

Thomo,

The 8-32 will be fine mate. To get an idea look at it this way ... I can see 22LR holes in a Fly target at 200M with a 20 power scope so how much more do i need to see 308 holes at 300M. Answer probably less and I would think 12 or 14x would do .. so 32x should be plenty
im highly likely to shoot like a real mug
You will fit right in with the rest of us then ...

Thats good then, i have a 6-24x44 on the 204, but i have never cranked it up, a Bunny or fox is allways alot easier to see than a bullet hole.
The 308 wears a Old Weaver Microtrac fixed 10, it is a great scope but i dont think i could even see the fly let alone hit it.

Hair Bear, i reckon i will wrestle you for bottom rung, but Rule No10 sounds like a winner to me
