Starting a Groundhog style of competition/Ausvarmint Postal
Hi AI and Rinso
Would it be possible for a bloke(being me) who does not have access to a ssaa range or other, but can set up a range on our own private property to have a go? I would only be in the factory class.
I could have certain people present to be witness and time keeper, like local cop and neighbour who is a JP.
Sorry if i have given you a bit of a curly one, sounds like a great idea and i would like too have a go
Cheers,
Mark.
P.S. Would photos help with proof of rifle and any other requirements?

I think it should be able to be shot out on the farm, as I understand some people are far away from a SSAA range. It is a postal match anyway. Even with the witnesses, he comp. still relies on honesty.
We will see how much interest there is for it, and take it from there. There is enough info on this thread for people to say yah or nah!
Cheers

G'Day all,
for the 100yd, to make scoring easier, it might be worth shooting 2 targets of 5 shots each, but its only an idea.
Having 5 targets with 2 shots per target will work just as well at 100.
Rinso's rules...(catchy isn't it?) seem very firm but fair and clear. No ambiguity. So that makes the judges task that little bit easier to rule on classification of a rifle
Postal will work, but nothing like a get together to get the BS going and swapping of ideas.
Looks good, real good. Bring it on.
oh yeah i'll second rinso's motion!

By that definition my Tikka complies with factory class- the only thing that has been done to it is re-chambering to another factory chamber as the reamer used is the CIP spec reamer for the 6mm BR cartridge.Rinso wrote:Some guidelines I prepared earlier ....
Classes:
Factory Rifle Class:
Any factory rifle either repeater or single shot, which has undergone no accurizing work other than bedding and floating of barrel and action and trigger adjustment.
No benchrest or target style stocks allowed. Stocks must be factory configuration.
cheers
Rinso
I'm such a shit shot that the extra accuracy potential avail from the 6 BR case will put me about equal with the mid field guys not dragging my arse at the bottom of the list.

G'Day AI,
2 questions,
1. (14.) Shots scored up.......clip the killzone and get the point? Given it is a varminting comp and scoring may be done with photo's and internet. If it just touches the line you may not be able to clearly determine whether the kill zone has been "hit" so I think the line must be clearly cut/broken not nicked. That is 100% of the line must be broken.
2. That the same rifle be used for all targets otherwise I can use my BR rifle to 200 and then my f class rifle for the longer yardages. Not too many people have 2 specialised varminting rifles for short and long range varminting.
Otherwise I think the rules are spot on, and very workable. Well done!
Cheerio Ned

Well i will be in factory class ,and like most people have said ,floated and bedding fine !!
and cleaned up trigger ,but not after market ,will be fine
After that you are custom , simple !!!!
shooting prone ,will really benifit the guys using bi-pods ,
One point i feel should be done ,is factory rifles should only be shot off a bi-pod ,after all i don't know any one that would take a rear bag/mechcanical rest out on the field ,and we are trying to make it like a varmint hunting !
customs well that is some thing else ,for use folks that have them ,to sort out ,i reckon you folks would be more acessoriey type carriers (don't get all fluster now) just more care is taken for the shot ,
As for ammounts of shots per target ,you want to make it clear and simple to score ,5 in one target would be easy for me (as there would most likely be 5 hole in a A4 sheet . but ome of the other folks groups could lead to some heated debates ,keep it simple and fun
