Ssaa lever action

I'm keen as on the Ssaa lever action match , l tried a lot of other disciplines over the years but this ones got me hooked.l've even had to stop buying junk food & started home brewing so I can afford ammo.
Anyhow here's a quick review I posted on another site from this years national titles held at my home range, Casino NSW;


Had a great shoot with a good roll up, a strong showing from WA & Qld, some shooters from Canberra and Tassy as well.
3 gun winner (combined score from the 3 days) took home to WA a new Browning .22 grade 2 , a WA competitor also won a new Marlin XLR 3030 in the raffle. Several of the top scorers also won vouchers for new barrels.

National shoot is held on October long weekend over 3 days, consists of a 10 target x 5 shots open rimfire match on day1, 10 target x 5 shot center fire open match on day 2 & a 7 target x 5 shot classic calibre match on day 3. Open matches can use peep sights (no magnification) and Classic is center fire (tube magazine)with original type sights only ( post and v )
Open matches consist mainly of round targets and Classic match targets are animal silhouette's
Rimfire open is mainly Marlin 39a's & custom barrel .22magnum winchesters (can almost touch the target with their 26" barrels). Center fire open is dominated by custom Browning .222 Blr's with a couple of 6mm's and 25-35's are starting to show up. Classic caliber - .30-30 are most popular, but 218 bee's are also popular
I've just started developing an itch for a .219 zipper in a custom Marlin 336 to sort out these Blr's in the open center fire (are they really a lever action with no tube mag?)

Coarse of fire and target faces vary and is set by host state, usually 4 targets 100, 4 targets 50 & 2 target 25 varying time limits from 5 min to 10 seconds for 5 shots . Comp is shot 3 positional, no slings or restrictive clothing.
At a state level the shoot is shot over 2 days with the open rim fire and open center fire combined together to the one open class.

We had trying conditions during practice and the rim fire shoot , with strong wind- the tail end of that weather that took out SA's power grid. Sundays open was perfect conditions, then Mondays Classic saw rain towards the end which had the paper targets falling off our turning target setup during rapid fire- after a short delay all was sorted.

Personally I had a great day in the wind on Saturday wining my grade, my little $400 Mountie outshot a lot of custom rifles who's sights alone we're worth more than my setup- myself outshooting a lot of good shooters graded higher than me , placing 7th overall . Didn't shoot we'll in the open center fire ( think its time for a trip to the optometrist- fuzzy front sight ). Shot ok in classic and placed 2nd in my grade.

Next years national is in South Australia- para range October long weekend, NSW state -Taree early May and Queensland state around Bundaberg way early September

I to would love to find a marlin 336 in 219 zipper, been searching a long time wiyhout luck. Considered re barreling a savage 99 in 22 hi power to zipper but no more builds for old Johno

If you find an extra zipper after you get one let me know, do you see anyone using 99s?

SSAA Lever Action, do you need Cat B for that now or do you simply turn yourself in to the police after the event

The anti gun lobby definitely would have heart failure if they witnessed the full firing line during the centre fire 5shot/10 second rapid fire target .
