Hi all,
Despite the huge hurdles of being closed down by the FAR last year, we will be holding the Wagga Blue Heeler classic fly shoot on the 30th and 31st August.
To do this we have had to have extensive negotiations with both the FAR and the National Parks, we will be actually closing part of the National park in order to have the fly shoot. How is that for determination!!!!!!
Saturday is a 300m shoot which includes a factory class and sunday is the 500m fly shoot which is a registered match and will count towards fly shooter of the year.
Hope to see you a few AV guys there this year. If you havent had a crack at a fly shoot why not come along and try a 300m shoot. its fun and not too serious.
There is a barrel of your choice up for grabs for anyone who shoots both days, proudly supplied by Pro Cal trading in Victorria.
well done to the Wagga range blokes for their persistence to get things sorted out. A question Chappo, do you need to be a member of any association of the like to have a go ? wouldn't mind having a try, I reckon the 20/222 would be a shoe-in.

Well I guess that counts me out, I ditched my membership a couple of years ago. Unless there is anyway I can be involved as a visitor.
300 Metre Fly ‘Factory’ Class – Melbourne, Wagga & Leeton
(only applies to fly matches – not to Wagga club competition)
A long range entry level event with the ‘Fly’ novelty factor. Both high velocity/low BC and low velocity/high BC can be competitive at this range. This event should satisfy the urge of hunters, varminters and ‘tactical’ shooters to test their skills in a competitive environment.
The rules have been drafted to reflect what is most commonly used in the field, both in terms of makes and models and common accuracy tweaks.
Rules-
Any standard rifle from a major manufacturer ( no catalogued ‘target’ models or custom shop versions). A list of specialist makers whose rifles are excluded is being developed and will be listed below. Single shot models are permitted.
Allowable modifications are limited to action bedding, barrel free-floating, altering length of pull and adjustment, alteration or replacement of trigger (minimum pull weight 500gm). Set triggers are to have the set mode adjusted to 500gm or used in un-set mode.
Stock to retain its original shape and weight. No attachments other than a bi-pod if desired.
Barrel replacement limited to the use of a genuine factory part in either the original or other catalogued calibre for that model.
Scope power limited to 25X. Higher powered variables to be set at 25X and taped.
Muzzle brakes are NOT permitted. If factory fitted and not readily removable they must be sleeved to make them non-functional.
Rifles may be shot from sand-bag type rests or from a bi-pod. Magazines, when fitted, may NOT be loaded. All shots to be taken from single loading only.

Doh, mine has a factory profile, same calibre, aftermarket barrel, looks like I'm out.

Ok guys bit of an update. No dramas shooting Saturday for the 300m fly without SSAA membership as this is not a registered match. Not so for Sunday as it is a registered match
As for factory rifle rules, seems I've stirred up a bit of a hornets nest on that one. I will make my submissions at our meeting next week and get back to you all.

Whats the go if fitted with a Boyds or a Ken Noye stocks.
Factory barrel how about aftermarket is allowed but only in the available factory contours.
No mags this maybe ok for Rem actions what if you are running a Mauser type eg CZ527 the extractor claw doesn't like single feeding. Or a mod mags that only allow single cartridge to allow proper feeding.

I found where chappo stirred up the hornets nest when trolling on the 500m fly website ! There's some strong opinions over there to say the least , bet chappo felt like a terrorist with a bomb vest on ! Well done for asking the questions chappo , the future of all shooting related activities is in bringing new people in and having a good time
