Re: Best 50 Heavy Gun groups in OZ
Thanks JR.
The list makes interestng reading. Obviously Townsville is the place to get the job done with Brisbane playing catch-up (8 entries from a relatively few years in operation). As those who shoot Canberra know only too well it's a damn hard range to get good results at. Been running this event for a good many years with significant entry levels at two shoots per year at least and only 5 results in the top 50. With the exception of Vlad's freakish 5.310" group no others in the top 25 - has to tell you something about the place. Another interesting stat is that only JR and myself get on the list with a result from other than a single range (I shot at Brisbane once in 2008 and got lucky - have not been back since).
I will continue to shoot Canberra twice a year in the hope that I get a decent day and maybe get into the 1/2 moa club.
Pete

Re: Best 50 Heavy Gun groups in OZ
Hi Pete , You are right about Canberra, it's a tough place .. Only shot 1K once there myself with a L/G, my performance was nothing to write home to mom about .. The southern visitors we have been lucky enough to get to travel all that distance to shoot 1000yd with us have just like me going to CBR only once , we had results they would have hoped been better .. It's a big ask to come to a new range and get on top of it ,straight up .. About the best result from a Southerner up this way since 2001 has been when Jacko Bending came up here some years back , he shot a 9.65in x 96 and said he was pleased with that compared his results down south with his development .. He also passed on the fact that we were lucky to have access to this range for as many matchs and practice sessions .. Fact is if you look at the results from Townsville over the years i think you could add to that the fact that i and others have shot maybe twice the number of events that the guys down south have .. We have in fact had twice the chances.. Plus the fact that every-time i have got a better gun at 1000 yds it has transfered to a better gun at 500 meters, but could not say the this is reversed easily.. I still today hold 1000yd benchrest as my primary interest in shooting where as a lot of guys i have talked to from south treat it as a novelty and place the primary goals on 500 FLY.. What ever winds your clock i say , have a great year.. JR..Jeff Rogers
