Saturday Arvo at St Mary's

Post by Rabbitz »

No not Mary McKillop.

SSAA Range at St Marys (Western Sydney)

Got a leave pass so decided to duck out to St Marys for a play. Dragged the 1813 Anschutz, whacked a 10-40x50 Tasco on it and headed out.

33+ degree day so as I walked into the air conditioned comfort of the check-in area, I thought this is alright. Spoke too soon, the ranges were dead-set hot-boxes!!!

Anyway buckled down and got the rifle on paper.

Played around for a while on the standard SSAA Rimfire target, I was putting in little bughole groups. So I decided to try the BR30 target. Well what a tricky little bugger that is!!! Three targets later I decided it was time to pack up and head home. Won't be the last time I give that target a go.

One thing that was disconcerting, I swear there was a heat shimmer or mirage, and it is an indoor range.

Hey Rabbitz,

Next time you're planning to head out there, send me a PM. Always willing to have a shoot out there with like-minded rimmy shooters!

The heat shimmer is off the light below benches 4 and 5. It's a massive light, gets quite hot, so you can see it even on bench 2.

The BR30 card is good to shoot at, as you score a 50 if you cut the inner ring, which means your shot has to be on song for every shot! If you're interested, I'll get some RBA cards for you to try out. They're a _tad_ more forgiving, but still, you're shooting at a 10-ring which is 6mm diameter, and an X-ring that's a 1mm dot!
