model 70, if you can afford it go the Kimba, they are superbly made and very accurate. In saying that I had my original mod70 .243 converted to .308 with a Remington heavy varmint take out barrel, barrel cost $150.00 and re-threading and match chamber cost $140.00. shoots 1/2 moa all day if I'm on t...

There used to be a product called graphite grease that was made by molybond, which may be what malcolm is alluding to. Was great for lapping in diffs and gears in the race and rally cars I was into then.
Really good stuff I thought.

My experience is that bushcook is right, you can also crush necks if it cams over. I have one in .308 and it seems to work extremely well producing very accurate loads. In fact I am on the lookout for one in .243 if anyone wants to sell at a reasonable price (cheap)

Hi aussie, Had the same problem, had a .243, not big enough for the big stuff, too big for rabbits and foxes if you wanted to keep anything, rebarreled the .243 to .308 (heavy barrel for long range) and bought a .223 ss Howa, something seemed to be missing , bought another win mod 70 .243 and h...

zzsstt, BINGO!, perfectly correct, comes down to service and personal choice. One thing worth considering is while a lot of forum members don't hesitate to import shooting gear, (myself guilty as charged occasionally) the same scenario is true of almost any product, yet we happily charge up huge deb...

I agree with you tony, they must be the buy of the century for anyone getting started in comp. and the quality of workmanship is pretty hard to believe for the price. Much as I love my winnies, after playing with the savage target action and researching some of the results coming out of the US, I am...

500nitro, I agree with you on the why would you bother but the assumption that bunnings make more than 15% on a lawn mower is not necessarily correct (although it was just used as an example). Quite often large companies use a big ticket item as a "loss leader" whereby they advertise somet...

zzsstt, In your post you mention the aus markup @ 19% above us RETAIL, I would imagine Aussie importers/agents (noia) would be paying wholesale us prices, plus import duties & taxes etc. so we would need to know the % above wholesale prices to compare on an equal basis. Big ticket items such as ...

james, I wasn't pointing the finger at gunshops either, let's just say that if they can't buy right, they can't sell right.

Guy's I've been in retail management for 20+ years, and in that time I have only seen 2 way's to make a profit (and stay in business). Volume or margin? either sell lots of product at a small margin, or less product at a greater margin (profit). Obviously a small gun shop can't afford to hold $X mil...

I have compared a sightron 4-16x40 scope to a $1200 leupold (can't remember the model) and a number of other scopes of similar size, (and price) and to my eyes there wasn't much difference in daylight, but at dusk the sightron was far and away the clearer picture, and as it got darker the difference...

Stinkitup, a tumbler cleaned my 35yo+ .243 norma brass up really well,
must admit I was surprised.(took about 10 hours though) However you can just use brasso if you only use a few rounds, just remember to wash off with warm soapy water afterwards to remove any residue.
