Re: Semi/Custom HUNTING rifles

I won't be building this until i finish school at least but i can start looking around for a action :D Buying bits over time is the way to go - for most of us ! You might have to buy a complete rifle with a shot out barrel as andrewk did. Or you might find an action for sale that's just right for w...

Google is handy for finding out this kind of thing ! a bit of basic searching and you'll find some really good tips + tricks like how to adjust them , how to polish the lower section of the mandrel down a bit to get rid of the "suction pop" when the mandrel comes out of the neck and a few ...

Re: Extraction problems

Hey spud if you haven't got something useful or helpful to add to the thread maybe you should butt out ! There are people here who want something more than just an out of the box factory rifle. Sometimes that comes with a few teething troubles but ends up with something the owner values far more. No...

Re: AR 2206H

I'll add that if you look at the heaviest vs the lightest bullets, generally you'll see that the faster powder gives the best velocity with the lightest bullets and vice versa. If your rifle barrel has the "standard" twist for the cartridge, pick the bullet weight from the middle of the ra...

Re: Removing Crimped Primers

Yep thats them, HSS got mine in for me, about $75. If I'd been aware of the Wilson cutter I woulda got that instead though. You'd want to have a shitload of cases for it to be worthwhile. I've got a bucket full of ADI stuff so it seemed worth it to me..

Re: Removing Crimped Primers

No, it doesn't work on the right area of the case....there's a Wilson cutter that works in the Wilson case trimmer, or the RCBS primer pocket swaging die set

Re: Below minimum load's

DO some searching of this site, been a few discussions on the Hornet. They can be great but they can be frustrating too. Most of the guys who say nah don't get a Hornet, have never had one themselves ! I've had one, in a cheap, break open single shot rifle. IMO you've got to be handloading to get the...

Re: Below minimum load's

In some instances there can be Secondary Explosion Effect (SEE) mainly with the slower powders in large cases. Low power loads can be done with small charges of fast powders but it's not something to approach with a "she'll be right" kind of attitude. If you can't find proven safe loads wi...

Re: rifle build up part 2

Nice shooting Andrew, the short barrel would be robbing you of some fps. Good to have a go and if you're into to it splash out on a more suitable rig. That Tikka should give you plenty of fun anyway

Re: Sako L461 thoughts

L461 + L46 in original condition are sought after by collectors so fetch a premium price. Shot out + beaten up versions are sought after for project rifles so that can push up the price a bit. I was watching a few on Usedguns in 2008 and in a few months prices went from sub $1000 for a reasonable ri...

The main thing with a brand spanking new rifle is to thoroughly clean all of the factory preservative oil out of the barrel.

Re: is 22 magnum better on fox then a hummer?

22 hornet is .223 NO! they are mostly not...unless made a very long time ago. .223 bore Hornets are rare. While we are bitching about spelling, punctuation and grammar  , I'll take this opportunity to point out that to,too and two have different meanings. As do lose and loose, there, their an...

Too late for the group buy, was finalised before Xmas and a few stocks have arrived in Oz already. We're waiting to find out the final freight costs, postage wasn't cheap.
