Re: .22/30cal plastic sabots
Yeah Marco I've had a play with these things. I've never had a problem inserting projectiles in them. They have splits down the side which just open up when you push the pill in. I simply push the pill into the sabot then seat it in the case as you do any other projectile. They work better with flat...

Re: Importing components
Doesnt matter now mate, I have found a place in queensland that has the wads im looking for. Great to see there are a few die hard places that import specific gear in and not just put up with what big companies are willing to bring in to aus. Hi are you able to tell us who it is that has these wads...

Re: 36g varmint grenades
Hi czt3 I have 2 howas that are about 15 yrs old. I'm not sure whether the quality has changed but these rifles have been great. The triggers easily adjust for creep and weight and both mine are set at a bit under 2lb. My first 3 shots out of the 300wm with 4X scope went .8 moa with factory ammo. An...

Re: 36g varmint grenades
Yeah Grimo I would have to agree if those varmint grenades at 4700 were your regular hunting load barrel life would have to be some what reduced! But with regards to the velocity we achieved it’s not really that extreme for the swift with bullets that light. Even before we shot them I did a few calc...

Re: 36g varmint grenades
A mate of mine just got back from a Roma shooting trip where he gave the Barnes VG's a test. We had them doing 4700fps out of his swift but even at those speeds they seem unreliable in the way they expand. More often than not they produced similar results to fmj's on small critters. Dunno why but th...

Re: Comparative Burn Rates
Hmmm I'll put money on half the burn rate of 2213. So 2218 ++ slow.
But no fuggin idea really.......

Re: New Egay scales
Very nice mate, got a link to these scales on egay? This is not a direct link to the actual scales but to most of the .001 gram scales they have. http://shop.ebay.com.au/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=0.001g+digital+scales&_sacat=See-All-Categories" onclick="window.open(this.href...

New Egay scales
I've been using my old ebay digital scales successfully for a couple of years now without any dramas. I managed to jag that set for 25 bux delivered when the usual price was around $35. I was a bit sceptical of how they would perform for the price but when another mate showed up with an identical se...

Re: So whats wrong with the .243 (pope gun) again??
Yeah "HiWall" I know what you're saying about ADI load data, it really is a big pile of BS and can only be considered a rough guide. With all the calibres you see in my signature none show a velocity equal to any of the figures published by ADI and in fact all show at least 150 to 300fps l...

Re: So whats wrong with the .243 (pope gun) again??
This is my .243 calibre rifle - it is a pretty good calibre really, especially when chambered for .240 Wby Mag. What load are you using to get over 4000fps with 55gr bullets - sounds like you have picked a good powder. hmmmm, i wonder what your hinting at.... Yeah not sure what he's hinting at? Any...

Cheers Mate Nah bugger wasting bullets going up .5 gn at a time. 1gn will give you plenty of warning if you're starting mild. They're light pills. With hea...

Re: 36gn Varmint grenades + 220 Swift = FAARRK
Thanks for that 300 rum think I have a tin of 06 here. How bad was the pizza. The first try out on critters won't be for a few weeks yet. If have a different gun to ours it might be worth working up your loads somewhere other than in front of your chrony too. We didn't have any explode on leaving th...

Re: does anyone have info on 308 subsonic loads
Heres a picture of bullets designed to expand at subsonic velocities. Notice the long slots in the nose, large hollow point and narrow driving bands on the body. But again these have a BC worse than a cast pill. http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j291/BKR33/Subhollowpoints.jpg This is the cast pill I...

Re: 36gn Varmint grenades + 220 Swift = FAARRK
300 RUM what powder and charge were you using for that. Pretty keen to give em a go in my swift :D Yeah the load is 42.5 of 2206. Not 2206H. (all the obvious warnings apply). My mate has enough of this powder left for the next hunting trip but we'll have to work out another load in the futu...

36gn Varmint grenades + 220 Swift = FAARRK
While I was doing some load development at the range with my pope gun this week a mate brought along his Ruger 220 swift laminate job to do the same. The main focus for him this time round was the 36gn barnes varmint grenades I gave to him for Xmas. Now right from the outset I had no great expectati...
