Re: crap brass
Because Lapua has established itself as a leader in quality brass for target shooting. Bertram specialises in a completely different aspect - rare + hard to get brass.

Re: the amazing HMR and other stories
The same bloke in the space of about 5 minutes came out with " I dropped a water buffalo with my .22 Magnum when I was up in the NT " and then there was the time he was shooting his 17Rem at some crows on a carcass - the flies were that thick the bullets were blowing up on them and they st...

Re: 20 practical cometh and destroyeth
Hi Marco, yes you could. Bear in mind Mil stuff has a crimp to the primer pocket which should be swaged out before reloading. Mil brass has a smaller internal volume so you need to allow for that ie mil cases would need their own load development, don't just swap from commercial brass to military st...

Re: 20 practical cometh and destroyeth
If it were me I'd buy a my self a tikka or ruger varminter in 204 or 223 and I'd go out shoot and have fun. I can imagine it would be nice having a custom rifle but I can't see the value in it. Hey Keith the thread is about a blokes project rifle that's he's finally got ready to shoot and he's shar...

Re: 20 practical cometh and destroyeth
I'll second what Trevort said re that tinkering with brass adds another dimension to the sport/pastime of being a shooter. If you like tinkering with shiny metal things then perhaps a wildcat cartridge is something you'd enjoy. It might even help develop your mechanical aptitude as it seems to be do...

Re: Dreaming What to Do.
If you are going to get a custom rifle built consider making the most of the opportunity to get it in a cartridge and barrel twist optimised for your purpose but with a reasonable barrel life. If you want to keep being a Wildcat Luddite just go with the 260 Rem ! brass will be much cheaper than 6.5x...

$800 for a bloody bipod
Good things come to those who wait ! but if you've got more money than patience, well maybe the TRG is the way to go. Or how about someone else's custom rifle up for sale - you see some very nice ones up for sale occasionally.

Re: Case forming photos
Good stuff Trevort...what kinda heat source did you use for the annealing ? I've got a 221 Fireball in the pipeline, and I want to make my own brass from ADI, or Lapua if the ADI stuff doesn't turn out well.

Re: Long reaching pill for .223
To shoot in a 1:12 twist .223 there's 50, 52 or 55gn bullets that will hit harder than 40gn... Nosler SHOTS are good value for money. If you are wanting to shoot further, heavier bullets will work better but there's no free lunch ! Depends how much further you want to shoot though, inside 200m the b...

Re: FX-Monsoon semi auto
Ok fair enough re which one is flatter, the .22LR has it over the AG's...now what I'd like to know is are these PCP's that accurate out of the box, is it just a matter of finding the best pellet ? PCP's would be gentle on scopes compared to a springer ? I'd better go and search through some AG posts...

Re: FX-Monsoon semi auto
snip>I don't mean offence or to be cocky when I say this but I am not sort of right I am right. If I were wrong I'd happily admit it but there is 7 inches less drop with the 22lr using std velocity ammo to an airgun doing 900fps with an exact. It isn't opinion mate its physics. looking at the resul...
