Valid point Brett.
I'm happy learning on the 'big' 10 rings.
When (if) I improve to the point where I am shooting 200.15 or better regularly then I might venture out and join you guy on the teeny weeny targets.
I fear at this stage I would just embarress myself.

Gotta love heathly discussion!
Each to his own technique, play within the rules and may the best wind reader win on the day.

Re: Rimfire Target Rifle Shooting Forum?
Dave, The reality is that the Small Bore Association don't really utilise flags because there are only two that can be utilised and they certainly don't give you direction. Perhaps your right Ol Rinso 'Ol Chum' in that we do have wind flags in Small Bore, however, the majority of shooters don't use...

Re: Rimfire Target Rifle Shooting Forum?
Hey Bec, Well done on the 197. My best of 3 targets the weekend before last was 197.14 with the Sako. I haven't tried the expensive ammo yet (can't justify/afford the price tag at this point) so don't want to tempt myself. I am using SK rifle match which will do me for the moment and seems to perfor...

Re: Rimfire Target Rifle Shooting Forum?
Interesting discussion guys. Being new to rimfire BR myself I find this kind of debate/discussion very infromative. Impresisve shooting there Ron. Do you recall which rifle you shot those scores with? Nice buy on the Sako Range Bec :D , I too purchased a Sako Range as my first rimfire BR rifle (whic...

Re: Clearidge Ultra XP 6-20x40
Thanks Guys,
I'll mostly be shooting benchrest at 50m and then the silhouette at 25m - 100m.
Sounds like I should be right with it sighted in at 50m and then use the mil-dots for hold over for Silhouette.

Clearidge Ultra XP 6-20x40
Hi Guys, I am looking to upgrade the scope on my .22 (sako P94) that I mainly use for benchrest but also for silhouette and the odd bunny sniping session. For this reson I'd prefer a variable scope (6-20 magnificantion or slightly higher) My budget is very tight ($400 is pushing it)so I was consider...

Re: Beginner - Rimfire Benchrest
Hey Guys, It seems your advice (and the practice) is beginning to pay off. My scores have been slowly improving over the last couple of months and on the weekend everything seemed to come together. Call it beginners luck if you like but I managed to shoot my first 200. :D Now some of you guys probab...

Re: Beginner - Rimfire Benchrest
Thanks all for the various opinions, advice and suggestions. It's handy to get a few differing opinions on things before spending the money and finding out the hard way. I'll leave the tuner out of the equation for the moment and concentrate on practice and trying to learnt to read the wind. Bob, th...

Re: Beginner - Rimfire Benchrest
Hey Ned, Thanks for the encouragment. Getting time to practice as much as I'd like to is the hardest thing, 2 young kids in the family makes things very busy and range time scarce. A Jewel trigger would be great, although they seem as rare as hen's teeth. The current trigger is lightened as much as ...

I've run thorugh a some 5 shot group tests with about 10 different low to mid priced target ammo and so far SK rifle match seems to be performing be...

Beginner - Rimfire Benchrest
Hi Guys, I am new to the benchrest side of target shooting and was hoping for some advice from those who have a bit of experience in this game. I have recently purchase a Sako P94 'range' to use off the bench. It currently has a 4-12x56 Tasco (jap) on it which will have to do until I can save some c...

The reason I want to be able to shoot heavier pill is that in all liklihood I will be able to shoot more regularly at the range than I will be able to get out hunting. I'd like to get into the long range target shooting however I will be restricted to a rifle with low recoil due to a recent neck/spi...
