Re: Stock Rigidity
Yes Tony, c/f between 12mm AA marine ply. Nothing scientific, seems to work. I only make these one off for a few people that get referred. Do not use a duplicator, Build each stock up in layers from the "inside out". last thing is hand shaping. These days only work with Barnard P and the V...

Re: Rod Davies - World F Open Champion
The Australian F Open Team (including Rod and 15 others) has just won the World Championship ahead of Canada. The Australian FTR (F Class with 308 win rifles on bi pods) team won the Silver just behind the USA. What a fantastic result for Australia. Culmination of 4 years planning and training.

Re: Rod Davies - World F Open Champion
Nope, here are results for Grand AGG. http://www.dcra.ca/results/2017/CFRC/a877.htm Consisted of 6 matches, over 3 days. 100 scoring shots. Rod was 489.41. He put all but 10 shots into the 1MOA "5 ring", and 41 of those were in the 1/2 MOA "V" ring. 70 of those scoring shots were...

Re: Hydro Dipped Gunstock Painting
It was ply laminate. It had a bit of builder bog in it as I had changed actions and it looked pretty bad. The people at AJ Hyrdodipping asked me to give them an old stock so they could do a demo for me. (I make F Class stocks). It now looks a million dollars. I gave it to them stripped of the old fi...

Very Bad News - Passing of Jim McKinley
Jim McKinley, the "father" of the Fly Shoot has passed away last night as the result of a fire at his home in Canberra. This is indeed very terrible news. Little is known of the circumstances at this time and his home is now a crime scene. What a loss, the shooting sports has lost one of i...

Re: Laminate wood
For a thumbhole. I use a forstner bit to make a small hole, say 20mm. I then use a Wood carvers gouge and a mallet to enlarge and cut the area for the thumb/palm roughly to shape, then use the round microplane rasp to shape, then the round sanding bobbins in an electric drill ( slow speed) to refine...

Re: Laminate wood
Micrplanes are give more control and a better finish than a rasp. Be careful, the ones that are featured in cooking shows for grating cheese etc WILL NOT cut wood. Also, I have found that it takes just as much effort and cost to make a stock out of crap wood, as it does with good timber...get the be...
