Re: My 223, 260, and 22lr

Sorry to upset a few guys and be tagged with having a superiority complex. I agree with the unfriendly atmosphere around benchrest competitions as your comment has been made by others numerous times before. Have only tried F Class shooting twice but found the target numbers too far away from the tar...

Re: My 223, 260, and 22lr

I no doubt grew up in poorer times and shot foxes for money and rabbits for food hence the head shots. I have body shot a lot of foxes mainly with 70gn flat base in a 243Win and like you mentioned they almost break in half. Some of the more distant ones looked like they had been shot with a rimfire ...

Re: My 223, 260, and 22lr

I didn't know how good you fox shooters are, consistent 400 yard head shots on foxes without down grading the skins. Wow, this is magic because the area to be hit is around 1/2 ". That means you have to have a rifle that shoots consistently 1/8" minute of angle. The World Benchrest Champio...

Re: My 223, 260, and 22lr

Ackley, how many game do you shoot over 250 yards during a days hunting? That's about the guaranteed hit range of a 52 gn bullet at 3,500 ft second on a reasonably calm day. There are always flukes out to 350 where hits can't be guaranteed. I don't like injured animals. There's nothing wrong with he...

Re: My 223, 260, and 22lr

Chris, I would not suggest making bullets these days as the Sierra or J4 jackets have been overprice to a point where you can just about buy Berger projectiles made on J4's for the same price. If you are a keen Benchrest shooter then going through all the paper work to land a jacket shipment may be ...

Re: My 223, 260, and 22lr

Sorry, re the saving post bit, I received an email from the forum management they would be terminating anyone who had not posted in the past 12 months, That's the reason for the remark. Re some ones previous post about fox shooting and not needing all that guff I posted. I used to shoot over 20 foxe...

Re: My 223 and 260

Those rifles look like a lot of money to shoot small game. I like to build very light rifles chambered for the 223Rem or 22PPC with the occasional 17MK IV or 17.222 for Foxes. I prefer the 22PPC over the 223 but like the availability of 223Rem ammunition and the standard small rifle bolt face. I usu...

Re: New Savage on it's way

Lowndsie, I'm sure you won't be disappointed, they shoot small groups though do suffer a bit more copper fouling than some of the top grade benchrest barrels. Try some hand made benchrest bullets made with J4 jackets. These foul a lot less which will help the 22-250 go longer between cleans. A lot o...

Re: Lapua Brass

Lapua brass is without a doubt the best brass by far. Seems a shame to stuff it up by making 221 fireball cases from 223's Remember the 308 cases with small primer pockets we used to make 6mm BR cases from? They were never any good as no one seemed to get the 6BR to shoot anywhere as good as the 6PP...

Re: AUST 1000yd BR Nationals??

I don't shoot 1000yd but one day in the future a lotto win comes my way would build a competitive rifle and give it a go. I am an old worn out 100 and 200 yd benchrest shooter. These rules are international and a number of countries shoot at the World Championships. The registered Australian matches...

Re: bore guide

Peters phone number is 91507367 or 0408119263 His guides have an O ring to prevent solvent leaking into the bedding and a slot so solvent can be applied to the brush. The hole for the rod to fit through is quite snug to give good rod elignment preventing wear to the start of the bore. Most barrels a...

220 Swift & Treloar Bullets

Mistit, congratulations, that's a very good result. No doubt you have gone to the trouble and expense of building a full custom rifle to benchrest specifications chambered for 220 Swift. Rifles like this need the best reloading components to get your sort of results. Owners of factory built rifles c...
