Re: 1:9 .223 what bullet?

Why not just buy a .22/250?? All that stuffing around for what?? Standard twist .22/250 will spin a 69/70 grainer fast enough to stabilise.

Re: 220 ackley

The .220 Swift is a good candidate for the Ackley treatment due to the tapered case. Should end up somewhere between the .22/250AI and the .22/243 Middlestead for velocity going by case volume. My 1:8 twist .22/250AI will push a 80gr SMK just over 3300fps with a load that gives good brass life (not ...

Re: .260 Remington

Had one, building another - haven't bought factory ammo for over 20 years, that stuff is a waste of money.

Re: Dreaming What to Do.

Keith, you should be able to whip the magazine block out of that action which will make it into a standard length capable rifle - then you can use a REAL 6mm cartridge, the .240 Weatherby Magnum. Bung on a Tobler barrel and end up with something like my 70 supergrade....that's a 28" barrel and ...

Re: Websites for factory ammo BC and trajectories

Any sort of performance specs and even ballistic programs are really only a guide as to what to expect mate. The exact same batch of ammo will most likely give a different velocity in any two chosen rifles so trajectory will be slightly different. The only way to be sure is to know the velocity a pa...

Re: Trigger weight?

Same reasons as Keith. Chasing pigs through lignum swamp with a .30/30 and sitting under a tree with an Esky and a HB varmint rifle totally different. Last thing you want when you are puffing and panting from pushing through water, scrub and mud is a very light trigger.

Re: Trigger weight?

My HB varminters all run at 10 oz as well, 1.5 lbs is my preference for walkabouts and around 2lb for hunting guns.

Re: rifle build up

love the paint work, not over the top just right  so whats going to sit on top of her now or is that up in the air at the mo? dunno, probably retire my 17rem briefly and use the vxiii 4.5-14x50 that sits on that for a while but i have a mate going to the states in december so he'll return wit...

Re: SAKO TRG 22

The only niggles i had about the stock was that the cheek and butt piece wasn't instantly adjustable, i believe it can be done with spacers but must be 'bolted' in? No necessarily a bad thing, as once you've set it there shouldn't be any need for further adjustment. Another thing with that is does ...

Re: SAKO TRG 22

That is a bloody beautiful bit of gear strifer, I was looking at buying it myself but was a bit stretched at the time and couldn't swing the ready cash. Congrats on getting hold of it!! As for the Sako TRG hawkeye, your choice mate, I am sure you will be happy with it. As I have said before the choi...

Re: 22-250 Ackley Improved

!'ve got a 22/250. Agree with all you say Hiwall but i wont ai one (well thats not on the agenda now  ) I do have an attraction to a fast 22 with lapua brass and small primer pocket though. I would like to have a play with the .22 Cheetah, pretty much the same as the .22/243 Middlestead but ...

Re: 22-250 Ackley Improved

I have two rifles in .22/250AI mate and have owned several .22/250's. There IS a noticeable improvement in performance with the Ackley version. Case stretching is dramatically reduced in the Ackley version also, therefore a worthwhile increase in case life. There are three cartridges that gain worth...
