Re: It’s here! Load development for the 17-222
The falling blocks are a sweet action to base a fine custom rifle on. Then again, even in basic factory form, such rifles are well worth the cost to have in your safe. I have a Ruger No1B in 25-06 that was a long, long term desire. Initially I got it to have the chamber lengthened to 257Weatherby Ma...

They certainly make sparks fly!
Looks impressive in the late arvo but an absolute bee-atch for starting fires!

Re: Military buffs
DSD, I could be wrong & will need to check my reference material, but I think the "AP" stands for Armour Piercing. If you're interested, pull one of the projectiles and run a Dremel cut-off blade lengthwise through it. If it is AP you'll soon have sparks flying from the steel penetrati...

Re: Lil Gun, it's a weird powder
I have several Hornets and have used AR2205, LilGun & Win 296. Can't say that I've worked enough test loads to date to quantify which is better. That said though, I was always told by the 'older' reloaders I knew, that IMR4227 was the duck's nuts for the Hornet case. I managed to source an unope...

Re: It’s here! Load development for the 17-222
Marcus, I've got a copy of Hornady reloading manual dated 1975 and it has load data for the 17-222. Loads were based on a Sako L461 wih a 19.75" bbl @ 1-10" twist. Case were Winchester with Rem 7.5 primers. It only lists loads using a Hornady 25gn HP but you could extrapolate from there. P...

Re: Stumbled across this
In essence yes - "I am no expert here". But how it was explained to me was its used after bore sighting, to confirm your sight arrangements - prior to firing two different natures, of main 120mm ammo. i.e. practice rounds of Sabot and HE. The SLAP-T .50cal round that is used to mimic the ...

Re: Rem 788 .222 - the old clunker has still got it
Still a good looking rifle.
I have three 788's in the safe - 222, 22-250 & custom single shot 22PPC. I'm planning on re-stocking all three, as the stocks on them have been tampered with.
I would like to track down a decent original 788 in 7mm-08.

Re: Bulk Order of Taipans SN 40g, 45g and/or 50g.
Hey guys, bugger I missed this.
Is there going to be another? Are there more guys looking to pick up bulk Taipan pills and missed this also?
I'd like to get some 40's for my Hornet and the 170gn 303HP. These 303 pills work a treat but I can't get them from my usual haunts.

Re: 22 Hornet Accuracy
Well done mate. Good to see another BRNO Hornet. Would love to spend some time doing load developement for mine but have too many other jobs on and will be moving to NSW to start new job in a fortnights time. Hoping to take a gats with me so I can get back into competitive shooting again, but not ta...

Re: ZKW 465
Missed: managed to get to the range on Monday just past. Had some reloads I'd made up to use in my custom Martini cadet K-Hornet to form some brass. From memory they loads were 40gn HP's over 10gn 2205. These shot a near 2" group @100M. I also had some factory Highland 45gn SP's which shot a sl...

Re: ZKW 465
Mate, stick with the rifle in it's original configuration. As some have said the ZKW465s are getting bloody hard to find in good, unaltered condition. One in VGC to excellant condition is worth over $1K these days. I wanted one for years and finally managed to score one last year. It's an early 60's...

New Savage 308's ????
Does anyone here have one of the new Savage Tactical 308's?? In particular the BATS/K. I'm looking at trading up my early model Savage LE-10fp Tac Elite 308 for one. I'm looking for a dedicated long range rifle without paying the fortunes commanded by the likes of Rem-Chester etc for comparable styl...

Re: Martini action - what to do?
Mate, there is nothing wrong with liking the Martini rifles. I have four in the safe; two are original 310Cadets and the others are a custom 17AH and a half finished project of a K-Hornet. I did own a 222Rimmed years ago but the availability of cases killed that rifle off. Kicking myself for selling...

Re: Custom 17 Ackley Build on CZ527 Hornet
Have a custom 17AH built on a Martini action. Great little round. Since picking up a BRNO ZKW465 Hornet I now have a BRNO Model 2 Fox Hornet which would be an ideal basis for the 17AH conversion. Please keep us informed on how the process goes, any trials, pitfalls advice etc. Would be greatly appre...
