Re: Forming 17 Rem from 204 Brass
I done a batch of 17Rem cases from (Winchester)204R cases a few years ago. After a few mistakes, a neck turning tool purchase and bit of learning how to use it, i ended up with some nice cases. Main reason i done it was the Rem cases available at the time seemed to be of dubious quallity, with necks...

Re: Reloading for the 17 rem
I havn't used the 20gr'ers, but the 25gr v-max's work very well on foxes. Pelt damage can vary from hard pressed to find a entry wound, to a fair sized hole out the back, pending where they are hit and if you get bone. I rarely get an exit wound with a chest shot on a mature fox. If you are after sk...

Re: Reloading for the 17 rem
if you are going to be shooting the 25 grain Vmax i would check the twist rate of the barrel. You will need a 1-9 twist rate to stabilize the 25 Grain Vmax. If its a 1-10 twist it will keyhole the 25 grain Vmax. They don't keyhole in the 1-10 barrels of my Remmy and Tikka. 25gr vmax's keyholed with...

Re: Reloading for the 17 rem
I use a Lyman Universal Accutrimer (you will have to buy the 17cal pilot seperate), far from the flashest bit of gear around but it works. I use 25gr v-max's in both my 17's (Rem700 and M55 Tikka). Tikka likes AR2208 and Rem 7 1/2 primers while the Remmy prefers AR2206H and CCI BR4's. The remmy refu...

Re: Spotlighting rifle, what are you guys using?
Most used spotlight rifle is currantly my Remmy BDL in 17Rem with a 8x56 nighteater, till finances allow a Kahles or similar.

Re: barrel questions for 25-06
Bought a new Ruger 25/06 not long ago and i'm fast becoming a big fan of the cartridge. 100gr Sierra pro-hunter over a case full of 2213sc seems to work pretty well on most things. I went the Ruger for its 24" tube and hinged floorplate mag. Personaly don't like detachable mags and the T3 just ...

Re: 17rem reloads
I must be lucky, as both my Tikka and Remmy can put 40-50 shots down before accuracy 'goes off'. From my experiance, keeping to the 3900-4000 fps range makes a world of differance with fouling. The Tikka expecially can retain very good accuracy at full throttle (4200 fps), but fouling increases noti...

Re: Scope for 30-06
My 30-06 wears a Leupold VXII 3-9x40, pretty much spot on for a hunting rifle IMHO. If money was no object, you could possibly step up to some better quality glass in same mag range.

Re: Case Trimmers and Lyman quality
I have a Lyman universal accutrimmer that has trimed a LOT of cases. Except for wearing out a few cutters (i should get a carbide one) its been fine. My Lyman scales are very old, bought cheap s/hand and never had a drama with them.

Re: which rifle?
I would skip the 357 and go straight to the 44mag personaly, bit more thump for those 100m shots. Lever guns make great close range hunting rifles IMHO.

Re: 223 goat loads
Used Sierra 55gr Gamekings and Hornady 60gr HP's with reasonable effect on goats. 60gr Partition should be a good choice too, and being a fairly short pill a 1:12 twist 223 barrel should spin them ok.
