My first 'semi custom'.

So here is the finished item first! I decided to go against most of the advice received and build the gun I want despite already having an accurate rifle. This is intended to be the basis of my 'forever' gun. I will be buying and building a second barrelled action in either in 7-08 or 308 to switch ...

Re: Building a new rifle...

I have weighed my current setup and the rifle w/ scope & bipod, unloaded, is approx 6.2-6.3 kg. This is 13.5-14 lb in the old style. I would ideally like to shave a Kilo or so off in weight. Using the Border barrels calculator and profiles from both Borders and Benchmark I estimate my current ba...

Building a new rifle...

So, I have decided I want to build a 20 Prac. Its not because I need to, but because I want to. I will use this for spotlighting foxes and splattering the odd rabbit. I have a 7 year old Rem SPS Varmint in 204 that I will likely use as the donor action. The barrel still shoots (average groups are ar...

Re: I can't wait to get my 17 WSM

the biggest factor in 1" v 30mm scopes could be quality of lenses. 30mm tube scopes were designed for and marketed at the upper end of the market, thus many would have been made using better grade glass/coatings than many of the 1" tubes marketed at the mid range or mainstream segment of t...

Re: cat c safe requirements

i have heard that the safe requirements for Vic are to change this year. something along the lines of must be a safe specifically made for firearms kind of thing, no more fridge with lock/reinforced change room lockers etc etc.

anyone else heard this or is it a load of s%$t?

Re: NEW Choate tactical

my fav feature is the fore end rail. thinking of having them installed on my other rifles. so easy to make adjustments to bipod position, for switching between prone, sitting over rocks/logs or offhand. (i prefer a diff bipod position for each due to balance of rifle, front hand position and posture...

Re: NEW TOY

sometimes you just use whatever is at hand when chance presents itself, but you never plan to be "undergunned". its like buying a 22lr for 300m target shooting.... it will hit the target (sometimes), but youd be better suited with a centrefire. as for putting a bipod on a single shot break...

Re: Hall Rimfire.

is that an april fools post? certainly sounds like one to me

if not, it would more likely be due to the difference in velocity from each barrel and/or slight diff in wind strength or direction not barrel brand

Re: Barrel length

im certainly no expert but i was always under the impression that the length was the TOTAL length of the finished barrel, including the threads etc inside the action.

Re: Leupold Vs 338 Lap

i read somewhere not long ago that the 5.56 and 7.62 (ammunition and components, rifles and barrels) are actually in a grey area -a very dark grey area- at the moment with the EU announcing its support of the UN treaty/s on trade in military small arms. the worry is that as the .223rem and .308win a...
