Re: Accurizing a centerfire rifle
My gunsmith now indexes the barrel so the muzzle is at its highest point at 12 oclock. For interchanging barrels this is good as windage zeros are rarely too far out. Im thinking it helps with long range load tuning as well. Ive got a copy of the Gordy Gritters chambering a match barrel DVD and its...

Re: bullet length ?
If you are using a calliper to measure from base to tip you are going to have trouble as the tips of bullets are inconsistent. You need to measure the ogive which is about where the bullet will contact the lands. http://www.rifleshootermag.com/files/2010/09/rs_sinclair_hex_style_bullet_comparators_a...

What comp, F Class? .308? I like 155 Dyers. 178 AMAXs go well too.

Re: Chamber Dimensions
Looking back at the picture there does appear to be quite a long thread relief at the chamber mouth.. The wall thickness is quite thin here and so this probably contributed to the expansion as there is no support from the receiver. Cheers Leeroy If the tenon threads were cut under spec there would ...

That's what happens with McTikka one size fits all action.
Assuming you're going LR I'd go with the 178s. Or trade the Tikka on a LA Remmy or Win M70.

Re: Hunting with match projectiles
168-178 AMAX will be my goto for hunting in the .308 (fox to fallow). The SMKs seem a bit harder to me and are not as reliable.

Re: Accurizing a centerfire rifle
I will add a little to what Brad has touched on, but with regard to an existing factory barrel. I agree, the crown should be re cut as a matter of course as this is the last link to the bullet and the most important one for best accuracy. The biggest fail i see in factory barrels is shoulder square...

Al
I'm in the process of building myself a front rest. Any chance you could take a pic of the windage adjustment on yours so I can see what the setup is?
TIA

Re: Cal Advice
Personally I would choose either 7mm 08 or 308. If your building a gun from scratch I would opt for the 7mm 08 Ackley. However, as you've stated you want a flat shooting caliber and although deviating here from personal preference if you want a flat shooting caliber with ability to purchase ammunit...

pic isnt going to acheive anything. I dont want to touch it again. I will get it done properly was just hoping someone on here would do it cheaper than a "real" gunsmith Fair enough, but as the saying goes a picture speaks a thousand words and it may give somebody an idea of how much work...

Re: Nosler Custon Competition .224 52gn
Have you tried BM2? It will give a better load density and probably better velocity. Personally I dont rely reloading manuals for determining max loads but if you're not experienced with the pressure signs they will get you close. Interested to hear how the load development with CC bullets continues.
